Bankruptcy filing leaves fate of Pā‘ia businessman’s properties in limbo ↗

The Paia Inn and several other properties owned by Michael Baskin were listed in a bankruptcy auction slated for March. However, a trustee appointed to the case last week said it's yet to be determined whether the properties will be sold or if there would be a reorganization.

Wet weather, Wind Warning remains in forecast through Monday afternoon ↗

A surface trough near the island of Maui continues to blanket the Hawaiian Islands in deep unstable tropical moisture through Monday. An upper level low just west of the islands and windy trade winds will produce periods of heavy rain, a few thunderstorms and flash flooding threats lasting through Monday afternoon. The highest threat for flash flooding will remain along the windward slopes of each island potentially driven by terrain anchored heavy showers.

A front will stall over Maui County through the weekend, allowing deep tropical moisture to pool over the island chain. This in combination with a disturbance aloft moving over the state, will bring the potential for heavy rainfall, a few thunderstorms and flash flooding beginning this afternoon and continuing through Monday afternoon. The greatest risk for flash flooding is expected in windward areas.

Gov. Josh Green today issued an Emergency Proclamation to alert residents to prepare for severe weather this weekend and to make state resources available in the event of resulting damage. The National Weather Service forecasts predict as much as 10 inches of rainfall this weekend, with rain starting as early as Saturday, while it is most likely to impact the state Sunday into Monday. The heavy rains bring the potential of flash flooding, particularly in windward areas of the islands.
